Graduate Geophysicist / Geophysical Surveyor

LandScope have a vacancy for a graduate geophysicist / geophysical surveyor to join our busy Shropshire-based team. Geophysical survey techniques form a critical core to the provision of integrated survey services to the built infrastructure, environmental and utility customers.

Candidates will be degree / higher degree level qualified in geophysics or other associated geoscience discipline. Demonstration of an exceptionally strong analytical skill-set is a fundamental pre-qualification, with proven experience or potential in software code development considered a key advantage. A working knowledge of coordinate systems, GIS and CAD delivery platforms is also a pre-requisite.

LandScope relies on innovative solutions and latest technology to stay ahead of the pack – we encourage our team to experiment and develop our data acquisition and processing techniques in the interests of maximising efficiency and technical certainty. Much work has been completed recently on the development of mobile survey solutions – including our 3D Radar step-frequency based highways survey solution; we will continue to concentrate on these innovations as a core. LandScope have an established R&D budget to develop key differentiators as and when identified.

Much of our geophysical solution offerings are based on GPR, across a variety of platforms, however the candidate would also require working knowledge of all land and marine geophysical techniques. Our survey vessel is equipped to provide multi-beam sonar / back-scatter, sides-can sonar, acoustic sub-bottom profiling and marine magnetometry. Land based techniques offered include for magnetometry, electro-magnetics, electrical resistivity ERT etc.

Working within a small geoscience team the successful candidate would need to demonstrate an ability to work across our various disciplines including hydrographic and land surveyors, GIS specialists, utility surveyors and 3D modelling team. Our geophysics may provide a stand-alone service, however in the majority of cases it will be integrated in to larger onshore and offshore campaigns.

The successful candidate would subscribe to an agreed CPD pathway – developing skills in technical solutions and development, project management, account management and team leadership. Strong performance and willingness will facilitate rapid and diverse career development.

Project work would include for a mix of both field and office deployments. The balance is generally a function of experience level and LandScope will always work to ensure a healthy ratio in the interests of the candidates development. Projects are largely UK based but there is often opportunity for some overseas travel, if of interest.

Our Shropshire office is in Picklescott, a small village on the northern flank of the Longmynd range. Offering spectacular countryside for the outdoor enthusiast. The historic market town of Shrewsbury is within 10 miles and offers an unspoilt cultural centre.

A full UK driving licence will be required.

Remuneration entry level is £28,500 for recent graduate with minimal experience; this would be scaled upwards dependent upon experience and proven achievement.
